It has been almost a year since I’ve seen one of my best friends.  It isn’t easy keeping in touch with someone who lives 720 miles away, but it is worth it to try.  Even if trying means saving up a few hundred dollars for a plane ticket, skyping whenever possible, or random text updates here and there; all of it is worth it.  When you have a friend like Sam, it would be foolish to let distance ruin a friendship.  Counting down the days until we can build blanket forts, go on city adventures, relax on the beach, stay up all night, and explore Long Island.  I’ll be seeing you soon, thirty-five days.  Cannot wait to give you the biggest hug at the airport, love you girl.

I’ve learned that no matter what happens, or how bad it seems today, life does go on, and it will be better tomorrow. I’ve learned that you can tell a lot about a person by the way he/she handles these three things: a rainy day, lost luggage, and tangled Christmas tree lights. I’ve learned that regardless of your relationship with your parents, you’ll miss them when they’re gone from your life.
I’ve learned that making a “living” is not the same thing as making a “life”. I’ve learned that life sometimes gives you a second chance. I’ve learned that you shouldn’t go through life with a catcher’s mitt on both hands; you need to be able to throw some things back. I’ve learned that whenever I decide something with an open heart, I usually make the right decision. I’ve learned that even when I have pains, I don’t have to be one. I’ve learned that every day you should reach out and touch someone. People love a warm hug, or just a friendly pat on the back. I’ve learned that I still have a lot to learn. I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.

things to remember

  • Know that being single does not mean that you are alone.  These are two very different things.  You are not any less of a person if you don’t have a boyfriend or girlfriend.  
  • If you cannot make yourself happy, no one else can.     
  • Do not settle because you are impatient.  Do not believe that good things come to those who wait.  Work for what you want and accept only what you deserve.  
  • Do not wait around for someone who is not committed to you.  Do not make sacrifices for this person.  Do not put your future in the hands of someone who has not invested anything in you.   


reasons why today is good:

  • finished my last paper
  • officially a senior in college
  • it’s now summer
  • grandpa is out of the hospital 
  • bbq with friends tonight
  • start work on Monday
  • and I like making lists


You either like me or you don’t. It took me twenty-something years to learn how to love myself, I don’t have that kinda time to convince somebody else.

What I learned from packing:

1. I suck at it.

2. I have enough alcohol under my bed to host a cinco de mayo party.

3. My bras and underwear fill up an entire suitcase.  

4. I could go three months without having to do laundry, no joke.

5. I own way too much of everything.

6. I will manage to forget something important.

7. Having a small car and this much stuff is going to be a problem.

8. I hate packing.
